Working in groups of 2-3, students read two sample research papers - one good paper, one bad paper - and graded each using a simplified version of the rubric their research papers will be graded by. After grading the paper themselves, the students compared with rubric with the the teacher's finished rubric.

FIRST PERIOD, THIRD PERIOD, FOURTH PERIOD, & FIFTH PERIOD
Today students officially started working on their Freshman capstone project - a persuasive research paper addressing a social issue they see in our nation today.
At the start of class, Mrs. Love went over how this project will be broken down over the next two weeks, what is expected of the students in class, how students will earn daily grades, and the impact this research paper can have on their over all grade in the class.
With the rest of the class, students used the document provided below to brainstorm topic ideas, decide on and have their topic approved, and create their official thesis.
Homework: If you did not get your thesis approved in class you should finish it at home and get it approved at the very start of class tomorrow.

Students moved on to the final step of this unit and put together their whole essay using the parts we have written over the past two weeks. Mrs. Love walked through this process in class with the students and a video going through the process has been provided in the video below.
Once student put their essay together, they were to print out a rough draft and give that draft to another student to peer review using the Peer Review provided by Mrs. Love in class. A PDF of this document can be found below.
