Below you will find the three extra credit projects for English 9A. Each project offers students the opportunity to earn extra points to help boost their grades as well as encourage them to further explore potential interests and expand their knowledge and skills. These extra credit opportunities will require a significant amount of time and effort, so they are not something a student can throw together last minutes. All students are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity. If a student is interested in submitting a project, they need to see Mrs. Love for details.
NON-FICTION BOOK review literary analysis
To complete this project, a student will independently read a non-fiction book that has been approved by Mrs. Love and, using the writing process, write and present a review. This project can not be done as a group and students may not read the same book.
To complete this project, a student (or students) will write and illustrate an online children's book that teaches about a different country. This children's book must be informational, engaging, age appropriate, and include both descriptive writing and poetry.
the pearl movie trailer multi media
To complete this project, a student (or students) will create a movie trailer for John Steinback's novel The Pearl, which will be read in class. This trailer must include all of the basic elements of a movie trailer - visuals, music, dialogue, title, director (author), ect. - and should be of a quality that reflects genuine effort.
A student may only submit ONE extra credit project per trimester. All extra credit projects will receive a letter grade, so simply completing the project will not earn a student all of the potential points. Students may work together on an extra credit project, but the total points earned will be split among the participates. If Mrs. Love's deems a student's contribution to a group project superficial or unsubstantial, they will not receive credit. A student may not submit an extra credit project if they are missing 10 or more regular assignments the date of their submission. All projects must be submitted approximately a month before the end of the trimester.
